I Am a Sinner

There is a book series written by Somme Sketcher titled “Sinners Anonymous”. I haven’t read the books but apparently, they are about a group of individuals who have committed crimes and are seeking redemption by joining a group called Sinners Anonymous where they can discuss their crimes anonymously. The books are considered, I guess, mafia romance stories. I really can’t say much about these books or the group it follows, however, I think we can use the basic concept for something entirely different.
We should take a page from another group AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) and call it Sinners Anonymous or SA. Better yet, let’s call it SC or Sinners Confessions. “Hi, my name is Terry, and I am a sinner. I have been sinning my entire life.” There are no cards or yearly chips earned in this group because let’s face it, there is no way you can stop sinning. It is our nature to sin as humans and we have been doing it since the first sin appeared after creation in the Garden of Eden. There has only been one sinless man in history and that man was Jesus Christ. So, in this group you won’t be receiving a 1 year, 5 years, or 100-year chip for not having sinned. I think most of us would be hard pressed to have a 1-day chip as far as that goes. We need to come to grips with the fact that as Paul states in Romans 3:23 “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
I follow Paul’s statement in 1 Timothy 1:15 where he describes himself as a “chief sinner”. I can look at myself in this scripture. I have broken every one of the 10 Commandments. I am not going to list them all but if you want to read them for yourself, they are found in Exodus Chapter 20. These are the basic laws that God gave to Moses on Mount Sinai after the Israelites left Egypt. They all seem pretty straight forward as you read them, but I guarantee that all of us have a hard time not breaking them, all of them. I will save a blow by blow of these broken laws for a future writing because I know there is someone reading this right now saying “I haven’t broken this one” or “I haven’t broken that one”, however, if you follow them exactly then there is no way you haven’t broken most, if not all of them.
So what am I doing here writing this blog? In today’s troubled world we are in desperate need of salvation. We need to take a long look down the road ahead and figure out where we want to spend eternity and how do we get there. We need to figure out a few things on this journey. What is Sin? Is there any hope for our future? Am I destined to spend eternity in Heaven or Hell? Is there really a heaven or hell and should I worry about it? What is Christianity and what does it mean to be a Christian? What is the Gospel and what does it mean for me personally? Am I a child of God and if not how do I become one? How do I know I am forgiven? What is Salvation? Am I truly saved? These are only a few questions of thousands that we strive to answer every day.
In Matthew Chapter 28, Jesus tells us to “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you.” Today we have more opportunities and methods for doing this than ever before. With the swipe of a finger or a click of a button we can reach hundreds even thousands of people to share the Good News of Jesus. Paul tells Timothy that God wants all people to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth. (1 Tim 2:4) It is our job to provide a way for this to occur through spreading God’s Word whenever and however we can. I want to do this, and this blog is one part of that. I will write as I am led. The subject matter will vary and jump around but I assure you this will be not from my own imaginations but through the lens of God’s Word. There will be subjects broached that will bother some of you and may even upset you. The truth of God’s word does not always tickle the ears (just tell you what you want to hear). We sometimes get stuck in the teaching of love and goodness and shy away from everything that deals with the wrath of God. Jesus was not afraid to tell it like it was and we shouldn’t be either. We must not and cannot tip toe around subjects that people would rather not talk about. I am going to try not to do that and I will provide scripture reference for what I write about. This will not be a “politically correct” blog. This will delve into the truth of God’s word.
The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.
